The various group types are:
|Root||A top-level collection, primarily used by Platform admins|
|Marketplace||A collection for a marketplace customer (UK, Core, Cancom, AppSmart)|
|Reseller||A collection for a reseller that will have its own end users as Company groups under it (may also have Base Product groups under it)|
|Company||A collection for a reseller's customer (will have Base Product groups under it)|
|Base Product||A collection for a service category, such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Machines|
|Product||A group for a specific service, such as OneDrive, Gmail, ESE|
Group types exist to identify the "child" companies of a specific reseller and/or the specific products that a reseller/customer has subscribed to or otherwise needs access to. Group types also ensure that data is aggregated on the relevant levels only.
For any new collections created in the Console, it is therefore essential that these types be assigned correctly, at the very least the Company and the Base Product collections. New collections created on the Redstor web app or via AppDirect will be assigned the correct type automatically.
In the Console, the group types menu is visible to all users who have permission to edit group/collection settings, i.e. any collection/storage admin or non-admin with the user permission group.UpdateSettings.
