Due to space constraints, some of your logs will contain truncated messages whose meaning is not immediately clear. Please consult the guide below to help you interpret your log messages.
Files show as "removed", "added", "re-added" or "patched"
Example from logs:
20:02:46 Removed C:\Users\Jane Doe\Pictures\Screenshots\Screenshot (1202)
20:02:46 Removed C:\Users\Jane Doe\Pictures\Camera Roll\WIN_20220407_10_57_59_Pro
20:03:17 Removed C:\Users\Jane Doe\Videos\Record roundup-20220713_140602-Meeting Recording
Logs showing files as "removed" or "added" do not mean the Redstor system has made changes to your files.
- "Removed" means files that were included in the previous backup are no longer present in the backup source (i.e. they have been deleted from the source since the last backup ran).
- "Added" means files that were not present in the backup source before are now included (i.e. they have been added to the source since the last backup ran).
- "Re-added" means files were present in a previous backup, were excluded from the last backup, and have now again been included for backup.
- "Patched" means a file that was included in the previous backup is still present and changes have been made to it in the backup source (i.e. the file was modified since the last backup ran, such as additions made to a spreadsheet or document).
Files show as "excluded" or "exclusions"
Example from logs:
INFO : 03:01:32 Excluded folders: D_, E_, G_, F_
INFO : 03:01:32 Profiled exclusions:*.mp3, *.flacc, *.aac, *.aiff, *.aifc, *.wav, *.avi
Logs showing files, folders, drives or file types as excluded do not mean the Redstor system has made changes to your files.
- "Excluded" means the files, folders, drives or file types have been excluded from the backup using the ESE agent interface (through deselection or global exclusions).
- "Profiled exclusions" means the folders or file types have been excluded from all backups by an admin using the Storage Platform Console (through profiling).
"Metadata patched"
Example from logs:
INFO : 18:42:54 Metadata patched C:\ProgramData\Redstor Backup Pro\Backup Client ESE\data\history\xxxxxxxxxxxx\meta\backupset.xml
INFO : 18:42:54 Metadata patched C:\ProgramData\Redstor Backup Pro\Backup Client ESE\data\history\xxxxxxxxxxxx\meta\Credentials.store
INFO : 18:42:54 Metadata patched C:\ProgramData\Redstor Backup Pro\Backup Client ESE\data\history\xxxxxxxxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\meta\Environment.json
The contents of your file(s) have not changed, only attributes such as Last Modified or Change Time, and as such only these have been backed up. This should not cause any problems.
"Skipping ownership and permissions"
Example from logs:
WARN : 02:17:18 Skipping ownership and permissions on '/DEVLogs/NODE0000/LOGSTREAM0000/NODE0000/LOGSTREAM0000/S0133746.LOG'
ERROR : 02:17:18 Failed to add (/DEVLogs/NODE0000/LOGSTREAM0000/NODE0000/LOGSTREAM0000/S0133746.LOG (No such file or directory))
A file or folder was deleted between the time of the agent building the list of all files, and the time of traversing (processing) the files. As a result, the agent is attempting to obtain the ownership and permissions metadata on a deleted file. Please check your service_errors.log.
