Global exclusions is a feature that allows you to specify that files with certain file names, extensions or last modified dates be excluded from all backups. Global exclusions can be set either in the Storage Platform Console (to apply to all backup accounts in a Group), or in the Agent (to apply only to that account). To set global exclusions in the Console, see Article 1143. To check which setting will take precedence, see Article 586.
How to set global exclusions for an ESE Agent
Open the Agent and go to Options > Backups > Global exclusions.
To exclude files based on their file names or extensions:
1. Tick the Exclude these files checkbox.
2. Type the file name(s) and/or file extension(s) to be excluded in the field provided. Each entry must be added on a new line, as shown below. Using a wildcard with an extension (e.g. *.mp3) will exclude all files with that extension from backups.
Example: To exclude all MP3 and AVI files, specify *.mp3 and *.avi.
3. Click OK.
To exclude files based on their 'last modified' dates:
1. Tick the Do not back up files older than checkbox.
2. In the field provided, type the relevant date in dd-mm-yyyy format or select a date from the drop-down menu.
3. Click OK.
To exclude whole folders:
1. Tick the Exclude these folders checkbox.
2. Type the names of the folders to be excluded in the field provided, each on a new line.
Note: Wildcards and path separators are not supported for folders.
Example: To exclude the folder My Music and all its contents, specify My Music.
3. Click OK.
