In order to test Full System Recovery (FSR) using Azure Mobility, you will need an Azure resource group and virtual network, as described in Article 1329. To create these using the Microsoft Azure Portal, follow the steps below.
Note: For production deployments, you should provision the resources (specifically storage accounts) with your organisation's preferences of security and resilience settings.
Page contents
Creating a resource group
1. Login into the Azure Portal.
2. Go to Resource groups.
3. Click on Create at the top left.
4. Select or enter a subscription, resource group and region, then click on Review + create.
5. Review your details and click on Create.
6. From the Resource groups page, go to the page for the relevant resource group (in this case DrRestoresTest) and click on Create.
7. Search for “storage account”. On the Storage account tile, click on Create and then on Storage account.
8. Complete all required fields. Note that the storage account name must be unique. Under Redundancy, we recommend selecting Locally-redundant storage (LRS) as it is the cheapest option. When you're ready, click on Review.
9. Review your details and click on Create.
This may take a few minutes.
You will see a confirmation message when the resource group has been created.
Creating a virtual network
1. From the Resource groups page, go to the page for the relevant resource group (in this case DrRestoresTest) and click on Create.
2. Search for “virtual network”. On the Virtual network tile, click on Create and then on Virtual network.
3. Complete all required fields, then click on Next.
4. Under IP addresses, we recommend selecting /24 (256 Addresses), as this will help with future configurations. You may need to delete the address space and add a new one in order to make changes.
Note: There are only 254 usable addresses in a /24 network. Selecting this option is not a requirement, and depending on your use case, you may wish to use a smaller or larger address block, or a very specific range. If in doubt, contact the person responsible for administering Azure in your organisation.
Then click on Review + create.
5. Review your details and click on Create.
This may take a few minutes. You will see a confirmation message when the virtual network has been created.
When you next open the RedApp and initiate Full System Recovery with Azure Mobility, you will see the newly created storage and network account names as options in the drop-down menus. Select these when testing the recovery.
If you would like the option to RDP to the host once it is restored, read more in Post-recovery Windows RDP.
