Symptom
In the Storage Platform Console, the on-disk size of a StorageServer that uses HSM shows an inaccurate or negative value.
Cause
The HSM target location and the StorageServer's Data folder reside on the same volume. The data in the HSM folder is deduplicated against data that already exists in the StorageServer's Data folder, which results in additional savings being recorded. This saving is then included in the total on-disk calculation, which will lead to a negative or inaccurate disk usage value being reported.
Solution
- According to Storage Platform best practices, the HSM target should not be on the same volume as the StorageServer's data folder. Reconfigure your Storage Platform accordingly. A
- Alternatively, perform a cleanup if HSM data is not required. To do this:
- Delete the HSM data on disk.
- In the Storage Platform Console, in the StorageServer > Advanced menu for the relevant StorageServer, run Start Cleanup.
