Our Insight functionality scans your entire ESE data estate to see the data selected for backup, files last accessed, used space on your machines, and much more.
Note: The Insight functionality is completely secure, as we do not transfer any file names or file content during information gathering. HTTPS is used for all communication, and all data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2) and at rest (AES-256).
Enabling the scan functionality
To allow scanning, the Insight option needs to be enabled for the Collection/Group.
- In the Storage Platform Console's Account Management view, right-click the name of the relevant Collection/Group and click Configure.
- In the dialog that appears, select the Features tab and enable Insight.
- Perform a Manual or Scheduled scan.
Manual scan
From the Storage Platform Console:
- Using the Storage Platform Console, connect to the desired Group.
- Select the Account(s) you want to scan.
- Right-click and go to Advanced > Start Scan.
From the ESE Agent:
Click the Scan button on the toolbar to initiate a scan.
Scheduled scan
- Using the Storage Platform Console, connect to the desired Group.
- Select Configure from the toolbar.
- Select the Profiling tab and enable profiling.
- Scroll down to Insight > Scan time and click >>.
- Specify the daily scan time and click OK.
- Click OK again to save and exit.
Note: Any Insight scan will require some bandwidth for the processing of the metadata. The amount of bandwith varies from a few KB (Linux machines) to a maximum of about 2 MB (WIndows machines). Windows machines require more bandwidth because we also run a system info scan on them which checks for installed software, updates, hotfixes, etc.
