1560 - Exchange Web Services XML errors show up for Exchange backups

Symptom

The RedApp shows Microsoft Exchange backups to have completed with errors or warnings. Further investigation reveals XML parsing exceptions, which will be visible on the Redstor backend, but not in the RedApp.

Cause

These exceptions occasionally occur for files retrieved via Fast Transfer Streams (FTS), used in Redstor's backup processes. This is a known issue with the Microsoft Exchange Web Services API, in which the API stream ends abruptly. We have made efforts to collaborate with Microsoft to address the problem.

Solution

These exceptions are typically resolved without intervention from the user. Only a small portion of the backup objects being retrieved are impacted, i.e. backups do not fail outright, although some accounts seem to be affected more than others. Normal backups usually resume a few days after the issue emerges.
