Support for version 5 and earlier of the Attix5 Pro Backup Client ended in 2013, with end-of-life in version 17.2 in February 2017. All the end of life Backup Clients are blocked in v17.2 and later.
Should your backups have run using version 5 previously, and the Backup Clients have upgraded through to version 6 and later, no action is required. However, if you are running a version 5 Backup Client against a version 8 or later Storage Platform, your Backup Client will need to be upgraded and a new account may need to be created – please contact your first-line support team for assistance.
Note: If your Backup Client is running version 5, this may be due to operating system Backup Client limitations, or Backup Client updates being unavailable on the Storage Platform. In either case, you should contact support for assistance.
Recovery for version 5 data can still be performed, but requires understanding of the necessary steps.
Restore of version 5 “live account” data
Due to limitations around data patching in version 5, attempts to restore using the Backup Client may not include all available data if the Storage Platform is version 8 or later.
To restore all data:
- Migrate the account GUID data to a version 7 StorageServer.
- Perform a task file restore.
- Please contact your first-line support team for assistance with these steps.
Restore of version 5 HSM data
If you have accounts that have previously run version 5 Backup Clients and have since upgraded, and also run HSM against those accounts, you may have historical HSM data available. HSM data does not include data patches, so is not subject to the same limitations as live account data. Should you need to restore to a version 8 or later Storage Platform, this can be achieved as normal by importing the HSM into the Storage Platform for presentation to the Backup Client.
For Platform Providers - Locating version 5 or earlier Backup Accounts
If you run a Storage Platform, install the following custom report: “ClientVersionsOlderThan”.
- Download the report here.
- Launch the report from the Storage Platform Console.
- Enter the value “6” to show all Backup Clients running less than this version.
