When performing a Full System Recovery (through InstantData), where the original backed up system contained a volume spanning multiple Dynamic disks, the following implications apply:
a) Bootable Dynamic disks are not supported
Currently, if the original volume was bootable, it will not be restored.
b) Dynamic volume recovered as Basic
The resulting virtual disk after recovery will contain a single Basic data volume with the same size as the original volume
c) Different volume GUID
The volume on the virtual disk will have a GUID different from the original.
d) Different drive letter
It is highly likely that the drive letter will be different from the original. This can be adjusted manually within the VM.
Post-recovery actions required
Accessing the data on the restored virtual disk will require the following manual intervention:
- Start your VM normally and log in.
- Open Disk Management in Windows.
- Add the restored disk, which is now a Basic disk, and bring it online manually.
Note: Bringing newly added disks online can be configured through the Policy Editor to happen automatically.
