566 - How to back up Dropbox

Background

The ESE Agent, when used together with the Dropbox Windows agent, can be used to back up files to a location outside of Dropbox.

Redstor allows the restoring of different file revisions from different backup dates, and can also be used to restore deleted files.

Configuration

1. Install the Dropbox Windows agent for your desktop or laptop user.
2. Install the Redstor Pro Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) Agent.
3. By default, the local copy of Dropbox files will be synced to C:\Users\Username\Dropbox. Select and include this folder for backup.
   
4. Run a backup of the files to the Redstor Storage Platform.

The files can now be restored as usual.

Note: If synchronising large amounts of data from Dropbox, you will need sufficient free space on your Windows machine to store these according to the space limitations used by the Agent. The files will be read during a backup, which will initiate a sync to your device from where they can be read by Redstor's systems. Backups may report these files as skipped until local synchronisation is completed.
