Windows Server 2012 introduced the Resilient File System (ReFS) in order to address some issues with NTFS in production server environments.
The Attix5 Pro System State Backup (using WSB) plug-in currently does not support the splitting of non-NTFS volumes and will cause the backup to fail if splitting is enabled and an ReFS volume is part of the system state backup dump. At present, Windows does not support booting from an ReFS volume and thus, it is unlikely that a ReFS volume will form part of a system state backup dump.
Typical error seen in the backup log
Error: 12:35:40 [System State (using WSB) Plug-in] SplitVHDX.exe has an error (exit code = 2). See backupservice.log for more detail.
Error: 12:35:40 SplitVHDX.exe failed
Also see FAQ Article 360 for additional error information.
A possible work-around on a system where the problem occurs is to disable splitting of the VHD/VHDX files.
- Stop the Backup Client service and close the GUI
- Edit the a5backup.properties file located in the Backup Client folder eg:
C:\Program Files\Attix5 Pro\Backup Client SE\
- Add the following:
- Save the changes and restart the service and Backup Client.
